The PAYE Modernisation Project involved the most significant reform of the PAYE system since its introduction in 1960. This is a new and “improved” way of reporting to Revenue. Employers will need to submit information to Revenue in real time, calculating and reporting their employees’ pay and deductions as they are being paid. All employers with at least one employee, will need to comply with the new system and this includes companies with just Directors on the payroll. This means employers will need to make more regular submissions to Revenue. Every time an employee is paid a Payroll Submission Request will need to be submitted to Revenue. The new real time reporting regime became operational for all employee payments being made from 1 January 2019. From this date, before you make a Wage Payment to any Employee, you must first notify Revenue. A penalty of €4,000 can apply to each instance where an employer fails to follow the instructions in Revenue’s new Payroll Notification system.
Your staff must be paid on time, every time; in the Ireland this is typically every weekly. Regular changes to payroll legislation can impose a drain on your resources so it may make sense to make use of our outsourced payroll service to deal with all of these on your behalf:
- Employee payslips
- Payroll summaries and departmental reports
- Payments to employees and Revenue
- Leavers & starters
- Year end returns to Revenue
